Explosions in central Kyiv as barrage of drones shot down

Lviv, Ukraine, Dec 14 (EFE).- Explosions were heard in the center of the Ukranian capital of Kyiv on Wednesday morning, and the country’s air defenses shot down a barrage of Iran-supplied drones, according to Ukrainian authorities.

“Explosions in the Shevchenkiv district of the capital. (Basic) services are still operational,” Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram.

“In the Kyiv region and over the capital, air defense forces shot down a total of 10 Shahed drones,” he added afterwards, referring to Iran-made unmanned aerial vehicles.

Air defense forces in the capital were working and had shot down 11 drones by 8am, the Kyiv City Military Administration later reported.

Kyiv regional administration head Oleksiy Kuleba said on Telegram that “The morning in the capital and the Kyiv region began with an attack by Russian drones” and that “most” were shot down.

“As a result of the morning attack on Kyiv and the region, 2 administrative buildings were damaged in the capital, and a private house was damaged in the village of Vyshneve,” Deputy Head of the Office of the President Kirill Timoshenko said on Telegram.

“The danger is not over yet! Stay in shelters!”

The drones were being launched from the eastern coast of the Sea of Azov, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said. EFE
