MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — An alleged “arrest” on the streets of Memphis is circulating on social media, after Mayor Strickland declared “directing all residents of Memphis to stay inside their homes, and immediately limit all movement outside of their homes beyond what is absolutely necessary to take care of essential needs.”
According to some users of local social media, people have been detained while driving and are required to show a document or letter that states that they are performing essential activities; according to what is described by the mayor, otherwise the person receives a substantial fine.
La Prensa Latina contacted MPD and, according to them, this is false. MPD officers are not making such detentions.
If someone from the community suffers this type of detention, they are asked to report the incident to MPD, and above all to follow the instructions that the City of Memphis, Shelby County and the Department of Health have made available to ensure the protection of the people of Memphis, during this health crisis.

MEMPHIS, TN (LPL) — En las redes sociales anda circulando una supuesta detención por transitar en las calles de Memphis, después de que el alcalde declarara “Indicando a todos los residentes de Memphis que permanezcan dentro de sus hogares, e inmediatamente se limiten a salir cuando sea absolutamente necesario para atender las necesidades esenciales”.
Según algunos usuarios de las redes sociales locales, hay personas que han sido detenidas mientras conducen y se les exige presentar un documento o carta que demuestre que son empleados o negocios esenciales; de lo contrario, recibirían una multa sustancial.
La Prensa Latina contactó al MPD y, de acuerdo con el oficial contactado, eso es falso, ya que los oficiales de policía no están realizando ese tipo de detenciones.
