Russian attacks have killed 700 in Chernihiv, mayor says

Kyiv, Apr 8 (EFE).- Some 700 soldiers and civilians have died in the northern Ukraniain city of Chernihiv as a result of Russian shelling and attacks, the city’s mayor, Vladyslav Atroshenko, said Friday.

“I can give an approximate figure: there are 700 victims, including servicemen and civilians. There are another seventy unidentified bodies,” he said in a video message.

Atroshenko said another 40 people had been declared missing after being hit by an airstrike.

“We know the cause, but we have no proof,” he said, adding that the bodies had burnt, leaving no evidence.

Between 80,000 and 95,000 people have remained in Chernihiv since the war began, according to the mayor of the city of over 285,000 residents. EFE
