Los Angeles, Feb 28 (EFE).- A father shot dead his three children, another person and then himself in a church in Sacramento, California, on Monday.
The event occurred just after 5pm local time (01:07 GMT Tuesday) in the church’s sanctuary, police said.
An employee of the Arden-Arcade neighborhood church, who was upstairs at the time, heard gunshots and called police.
The shooter had a restraining order against him and had court-ordered supervised visits with his children, who were all under the age of 15, Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones told reporters.
“At this church, we believe that this is what was happening – a supervised visit – and the shooter came in and what appears to be… killed the person who was supervising the visit, killed his own three children, and then turned the gun on himself,” Jones added.
He said the children’s mother, who had filed the restraining order although it was unknown how long ago, was on her was to the scene.
Police are also investigating how the perpetrator had access to a weapon and whether there is any relationship between the family and the church. They appealed for witnesses.
“Another senseless act of gun violence in America – this time in our backyard. In a church with kids inside. Absolutely devastating,” California Governor Gavin Newsom tweeted. EFE
