Father of 2 sisters killed in Pakistan arrested in Spain

Barcelona, Feb 22 (EFE).- The Mossos d’Esquadra, or the police of the eastern Spanish province of Barcelona, and the National Police on Wednesday arrested in Terrassa the father of two sisters killed in Pakistan last year by some of their relatives.

Sources privy to the investigation have confirmed to EFE that the Mossos and the National Police, in a joint operation in Terrassa, arrested Ghulam Abbas, the father of the two sisters Arooj and Aneesa Abbas.

The two sisters, aged 24 and 21, respectively, were murdered in what is believed to be a case of so called “honor crimes.”

After several months of investigation into this Pakistani family residing in Barcelona province, a police operation was carried out under utmost secrecy.

Since this case of double femicide came to light in May, the Mossos d’Esquadra began to interrogate relatives and acquaintances of the two sisters residing in Terrassa, including their father, brothers and an uncle to determine their alleged involvement in the killings.

During a trip to Pakistan, the two sisters were killed by their relatives, including a brother, for wanting to divorce their husbands from forced marriages. EFE
