Princess Mako’s fiance meets her parents ahead of wedding
Tokyo, Oct 18 (EFE).- Japanese Princess Mako’s fiance, Kei Komuro, paid a visit to her parents Monday after he arrived from the United States ahead of their marriage at the end of this month, public broadcaster NHK reported.
The couple met Monday morning for the first time in three years at the Akasaka Estate in Tokyo.
Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko, Mako’s parents, were with them.
Their wedding has been postponed twice since 2018 and is to take place on Oct.26.
Kei Komuro, 30, arrived in Japan at the end of September after completing his law studies in the US for his wedding with Mako, 29, a niece of Emperor Naruhito.
The announcement of Mako and Komuro’s engagement in 2018 caused a stir in Japan due to an alleged financial dispute involving the Komuro family.
The controversy ended up delaying their marriage for several years.
Mako will be the first female royal family in postwar Japan to skip rituals of a royal wedding.
She has also foregone a traditional lump-sum payment of up to 150 million yen ($1.3 million) given to a family member upon their exit from the household.
They will address a press conference after the wedding and move to the US for a new life together. EFE
