FC Barcelona, Spotify poised for deal that includes Camp Nou naming rights

Barcelona, Feb 8 (EFE).- FC Barcelona are set to announce a deal with Spotify worth 75 million euros per year that will see the music streaming platform sponsor the men’s and women’s first team kits and take the naming rights to the Camp Nou stadium until 2025, sources close to the negotiations told Efe Tuesday.

The progress in negotiations came after Barça initially turned down a deal worth 60 million euros that would have included the men’s first team shirts but not the stadium.

Under the latest offer on the table, Spotify will get the naming rights to the iconic — but dilapidated — Camp Nou stadium although the deal is unlikely to cover remodelling costs, which may be kicked down the road beyond 2025.

However, the deal with the streaming giant was the final nail in the coffin for the souring relationship between Barcelona president Joan Laporta and director-general Ferran Reverter, who resigned on Tuesday.

Spotify will replace Rakuten as the sponsor of the front of the club’s shirt after the Japanese firm announced it would not extend its relationship beyond 30 June 2022.

The next sponsorship challenge will be to find a brand for the left sleeve of the shirt, after Beko gave up this asset last summer. EFE
