FC Barcelona trigger clause to buy back Emerson from Real Betis
Sevilla, Spain, Jun 2 (EFE).- FC Barcelona will exercise their right to buy back Emerson Royal from Real Betis, the club said Wednesday as it continued to bolster its ranks with pre-summer transfer window deals.
This week Barça have already announced agreements to bring striker Sergio Agüero and center-back Eric García over from Manchester City once their current contracts terminate on July 1.
Brazilian right-back Emerson spent two years on loan at Betis under a shared-ownership agreement with Barcelona.
In triggering the buy-back clause worth 9 million euros, Betis will retain 20% of any future sale of the Brazil international, the Andalusian side added in a statement.
Barcelona said: “The defender will bring pace and an attacking dimension to the right wing as the Brazilian has scored five goals and created 10 assists with Betis, the club at which he has played since a three way agreement was reached involving Atletico Mineiro in January 2019.”
The new signings come as manager Ronald Koeman looks to build on his roster of young players, who are still guided on the pitch by the legendary Lionel Messi.
Financial issues at the beginning of last season forced the Catalan side to sell-off strong performers such as Ivan Rakitic, now at Sevilla, and Luis Suárez, who went on to win the league with Atlético de Madrid. EFE
