Fernando Alonso discharged from hospital after jaw surgery
Geneva, Feb 15 (efe-epa).- Spanish F1 driver Fernando Alonso was discharged from hospital Monday after undergoing surgery for a fractured jaw that he sustained when he was hit by a car while cycling near his home southern Switzerland earlier this month.
Cuatro TV published images on its Twitter account of the two-time F1 champion walking out of the hospital, three days after his operation following the accident on 11 February.
Alonso is expected to recover in time for the start of his comeback season scheduled in Bahrain for late March after three years of absence from F1 during which he tried his luck in other car racing categories.
He underwent successful surgery on 12 February, according to Alpine, the Spaniard’s new F1 team.
Doctors recommended rest for the 39-year-old driver but he is scheduled to take part in the Bahrain preseason testing in mid-March, for which he may have to wear an adjusted helmet to support his jaw. EFE-EPA
