Fire breaks out in under-construction skyscraper in Hong Kong
Beijing, Mar 3 (EFE).- A fire broke out in an under-construction skyscraper in a shopping district of Hong Kong, the government announced Friday.
The blaze began at the construction site, located on the 11 Middle Road in the Tsim Sha Tsui district, at about 11:11 pm on Thursday, the government said.
The fire services department deployed officers at the site to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
No one was injured in the incident, the government added.
The government announced that the fire was largely extinguished at 8:30 am on Friday.
The building, which will house the historic Mariners’ Club, was scheduled to be completed last year but was delayed due to the pandemic.
The club, for city and visiting sailors, opened its doors in 1967 and was demolished in 2018.
There have been a series of major fires in the urban areas of Hong Kong in recent months.
A fire broke out in an industrial building in the San Po Kong district in January.
It took firefighters almost 10 hours to control it. EFE
