US rapper Kanye West to buy conservative social media site Parler

Washington, Oct 17 (EFE).- US rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, is set to buy the conservative social media site Parler, the company said Monday.

“In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves,” West said in a statement.

The announcement comes days after entertainer and fashion mogul was suspended from Twitter and Instagram over anti-Semitic posts.

West, who is legally known as Ye, and Parlement Technologies, which currently owns the controversial site, entered an agreement in principle for the purchase, a statement added.

Parlement Technologies CEO George Farmer, said: “This deal will change the world, and change the way the world thinks about free speech.

“Ye is making a groundbreaking move into the free speech media space and will never have to fear being removed from social media again.

“Once again, Ye proves that he is one step ahead of the legacy media narrative. Parlement will be honored to help him achieve his goals.”

Parler was removed from Apple and Google stores for several months 2021 following the January 6 assault on the Capitol building by supporters of former president Donald Trump amid accusations it did not take sufficient action against openly racist posts and calls that incited violence.

Styling itself as a hub for free speech, its lax moderation of content has become a popular point of attraction for conservative and right-wing voices.

The site was an important tool in the organization of the Capitol assault.EFE
