Manchester City’s Mendy pleads not guilty to further attempted rape

London, Aug 10 (EFE).- Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy on Wednesday pleaded not guilty to one count of attempted rape, eight counts of rape and one of sexual assault in a hearing before England’s Chester Crown Court.

Mendy had pleaded not guilty to all charges in May except for attempted rape, from which he exonerated himself on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old allegedly committed the crimes against six young women between October 2018 and August 2021, when he was arrested.

The trial of the Frenchman, who has been on probation since January, will begin on Monday.

City suspended their defender shortly after he was arrested and the first charges against him became known.

Since joining Manchester City in 2017 from Monaco, Mendy – who was part of the French team that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup – has played 50 Premier League games. EFE
