Trump replaces campaign manager amid lagging poll numbers

Washington DC, Jul 15 (efe-epa).- The president of the United States on Wednesday replaced his campaign manager amid poor polling numbers less than four months out from the presidential election in November.

Donald Trump replaced Brad Parscale with strategist Bill Stepien, who has been working on his campaign since the 2016 election.

“I am pleased to announce that Bill Stepien has been promoted to the role of Trump Campaign Manager. Brad Parscale, who has been with me for a very long time and has led our tremendous digital and data strategies, will remain in that role, while being a Senior Advisor to the campaign,” Trump said on Twitter.

“Both were heavily involved in our historic 2016 win, and I look forward to having a big and very important second win together. This one should be a lot easier as our poll numbers are rising fast, the economy is getting better, vaccines and therapeutics will soon be on the way, and Americans want safe streets and communities!” Trump added.

Most polls currently put Trump about 10 points behind his opponent, former Democratic Vice President Joe Biden, who is also leading in all key swing states.

The campaign has also failed to find a response to Trump’s management of the health and economic crises stemming from the epidemic, nor the recent protests against racial injustice and police brutality.

However, the factor most likely to have hastened Parscale’s departure as campaign manager was Trump’s disastrous rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on June 20, which had a poor turnout despite the former boasting of an expected turnout of a million people.

Parscale has a good relationship with Trump’s sons, Donald Jr. and Eric, and his consulting firm employs their respective partners, Lara Trump and Kimberly Guilfoyle, for the campaign.

Parscale took charge of Trump’s campaign in 2018, focused on digital strategy and fundraising.

Trump also changed his campaign manager several times in the months leading up to the 2016 election.

In June of that year, he fired Corey Lewandowski, who was replaced by Paul Manafort, followed by Kellyanne Conway, who took over until his arrival at the White House. EFE-EPA
