Over a dozen killed in Russian attack in Ukraine’s Donetsk region

Kyiv, Jul 11 (EFE).- At least 18 civilians have been killed after a block of flats was struck by a Russian missile in the town of Chasiv Yar in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region, Ukrainian authorities said Monday.

Ukrainian state emergency services said that another 22, including a nine-year-old boy, remain missing under the rubble of the five-story building wrecked Sunday.

Six people have been pulled out alive, according to the emergency services.

In his regular overnight address on Telegram, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that two high-rise buildings in the city were destroyed in the Russian missile strike.

Zelenskyy added that search and rescue teams were working to save those still trapped under the rubble.

He also questioned the alleged “operational pause” by Russia in the Donbas region, where Donetsk is located, and other parts of Ukraine over the past week.

“Thirty-four air strikes by Russian aircraft over the past day is an answer to all those who came up with this ‘pause,'” he said, urging Ukrainians to remain united.

“We can withstand this war only together.” EFE
