Winchester Bowl Slated for Closure After 40 Years in Business

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) — Winchester Bowl has been a Memphis staple since 1979, but after 40 years in business the long-time bowling alley will close its doors for good next week.

Marcia Brown says her Friday night mixed league has been bowling there for more than 15 years.

“This is my bowling center, and yes I’m going to miss it,” she said.

Brown says she’s noticed several leagues moving on to other bowling centers. She was told that’s one of the reasons Winchester Bowl is closing its doors.

The bowling alley has had other issues recently as well, including a shooting in its parking lot last month that left a 25-year-old father dead.

Memphis police say the shooting stemmed from an argument inside the bowling alley.

Winchester Bowl is closing April 30, adding to the many other shuttered businesses in this Fox Meadows community.
