French far-right leader Marine Le Pen re-elected as head of party

Paris, Jul 4 (EFE).- Marine Le Pen on Sunday was re-elected as head of France’s far-right party National Rally (RN), in a vote with no opposing candidates.

The right-wing populist, who has held the position since 2011, received 98.35 % of the vote at a party congress in the southern city of Perpignan.

Le Pen plans to run in next year’s presidential elections, in a third bid to become the French president. Her main rival is likely to be the incumbent, Emmanuel Macron.

In Last week’s regional elections, Le Pen was hoping to take any regional council to boost her bid to the presidency and legitimize it in the eyes of voters, but she fell short of expectations.EFE
