Musk postpones relaunch of Twitter’s blue check subscription indefinitely

Washington, Nov 21 (EFE).- Elon Musk announced Monday that he was once again postponing the relaunch of Twitter’s blue check subscription service without specifying a date on which it would be available.

“Holding off relaunch of Blue Verified until there is high confidence of stopping impersonation. Will probably use different color check for organizations than individuals,” Musk wrote on his account.

In mid-November, Musk had promised that the service that allows people to pay for a once-free verification check mark on their accounts would be relaunched on Nov. 29.

Twitter paused the $8 per month Blue subscription service on Nov. 11 after users were found impersonating brands and famous people.

Companies like Nintendo, pharma giant Eli Lilly, and Tesla, which Musk owns, saw how users with the blue verification check mark impersonated the firms for hours until their accounts were suspended.

The option to pay $8 a month for the verified account symbol, which until then had allowed people to distinguish high-profile accounts whose identity was confirmed, came after Musk took over the social media company in a $44 billion deal.

The move to monetize the sought-after service triggered confusion and made it easier for users to impersonate others. EFE
