Ukraine revokes Iran ambassador’s accreditation for supplying Russia drones

International Desk, Sep 24 (EFE).- Ukraine has withdrawn the diplomatic accreditation of Iran’s ambassador to the country over the use of Iranian drones by the Russian military, Ukrainian state agency Ukrinform reported late Friday.

According to the Ukrainian authorities, the Russian military used Iranian drones on Friday to attack the Dnipro and Odessa region.

Six of these drones were shot down by Ukraine’s anti-aircraft guns, they said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for “urgent measures to respond to the facts of the use of Iranian-made weapons by the Russian troops in the territory of Ukraine,” according to a statement by the foreign ministry.

“Supplying weapons to Russia for waging war against Ukraine is an unfriendly act that deals a serious blow to Ukraine-Iran relations,” the statement underlined.

Apart from revoking the accreditation of the Iranian ambassador, Ukraine has also asked to significantly reduce the number of diplomatic personnel of the Embassy of Iran in Kyiv.
