Military helicopter carrying India’s defense chief crashes

New Delhi, Dec 8 (EFE).- A military chopper carrying India’s defense chief Gen. Bipin Rawat crashed Wednesday in the Nilgiri Hills of the southern state of Tamil Nadu, the Indian Air Force said.

“An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu,” the Air Force said in a tweet.

The IAF has begun an inquiry “to ascertain the cause of the accident.”

However, the force did not specify casualties and other details from the accident.

Social media videos allegedly from the site of the accident showed the chopper turned into a mangled wreck with the bodies of its passengers burnt beyond recognition.
