Gabon releases Aubameyang from Afcon camp due to cardiac issues

Sports Desk, Jan 17 (EFE).- Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will immediately leave his national team’s African Cup of Nations camp due to cardiac issues, the Gabonese soccer federation announced on Monday.

“The Gabonese Football Federation has decided to make Pierre Aubameyang and Mario Lemina available to their clubs to continue with in-depth medical examinations,” the federation said in a statement.

Aubameyang could not take part in his national team’s Africa Cup run due to a positive Covid-19 test and subsequent cardiac abnormalities following his recovery.

“Players Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Axel Meyé and Mario Lemina have just recovered from Covid-19 but will not be able to play this match,” against Ghana, the federation said in a statement on 14 January.

“The tests show cardiac lesions and the CAF does not want to take any risk,” the statement said. EFE
