Gaya, Soler, Torres, Sarabia score as Spain blanks Georgia in WC qualifier

Badajoz, Spain, Sep 5 (EFE).- The Spanish national soccer team on Sunday notched an easy 4-0 win over Georgia in World Cup qualifying play at the Nuevo Vivero stadium in Badajoz, Spain.

The Spaniards’ win puts additional pressure on Sweden, with whom they are vying for leadership of their group in the qualifying rounds for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Scoring for the Spanish side were Jose Luis Gaya, Carlos Soler, Ferran Torres and Pablo Sarabia, with Luis Enrique Martinez’s boys up by three at the intermission after a first half where they clearly dominated and had the game well in hand.

Goaltender Robert Sanchez played his first minutes for the Spanish squad and became the 25th player under Luis Enrique as coach.

After several key changes to start the game, the Spanish team that took the field consisted of: Unai Simón; Azpilicueta, Eric Garcia, Laporte, Gaya; Rodri, Llorente, Soler; Ferran, Abel Ruiz and Sarabia.
