Griezmann salvages France in 1-1 draw against Hungary at Euro 2020

Sports Desk, Jun 19 (EFE).- French forward Antoine Griezmann on Saturday scored a second-half goal to secure a 1-1 draw against Hungary that moves the 2016 runner-up closer to the knockout stages of Euro 2020.

The reigning FIFA World Cup champion conceded a goal two minutes into the first-half stoppage time, on a close-range shot from defender Attila Fiola who sparked wild celebrations at Budapest’s packed Puskás Aréna.

Griezmann scored the equalizer in the 66th minute, when he fired home a loose ball inside the area, off a Kylian Mbappé low cross, to earn his 38th goal in 93 games with France.

The goal brought Griezmann’s tally in the Euro championship finals to seven, tied in the third spot of the tournament’s all-time top scorer with Alan Shearer, only behind Cristiano Ronaldo (11) and Michel Platini (9).

After the draw, France hold the top spot of Group F with four points, one more than second-placed Portugal, which play Germany, while Hungary bagged their first point in third place. EFE
