Gündogan to sign with Barcelona

Sports Desk, Jun 21 (EFE).- Manchester City captain Ilkay Gündogan plans to sign with FC Barcelona for two years with an option for a third year, sources closes to the negotiations told EFE Wednesday.
The German international declined City’s offer of a one-year contract renewal plus second-year option with an annual salary of 14 million euros, opting instead to go to Barcelona for 9 million euros a year.
Gündogan’s current contract with the Premier League champions expires at the end of this month, so he will be going to Barcelona on a free transfer.
Spanish sports daily Mundo Deportivo said that the Catalan club’s director of football, Mateu Alemany, traveled to Munich to finalize the agreement with the 32-year-old midfielder.
At a promotional event Wednesday, club president Joan Laporta suggested that the deal for Gündogan was all but done.
“We have been working for some time to reinforce the team, the market is responding well,” Laporta said. “There are players of the first rank internationally who prioritize coming to Barca and want to come to Barca.”
Gündogan scored 11 times in 51 games for Man City in 2022-2023, including both goals in the 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup final.
