Gutter politics: Rat interrupts parliament session in southern Spain

Seville, Spain, Jul 21 (EFE).- Members of the regional parliament in Spain’s Andalusia region scrambled for higher ground Wednesday to escape a rat that entered the chamber.

The uninvited rodent appeared under the desks used by members of the far-right Vox and liberal Ciudadanos parties just as a vote was due to get underway.

The regional speaker, Marta Bosquet, let out a gasp when she set eyes on the animal but asked lawmakers to stay calm.

Some members climbed on top of their seats, while others left the chamber altogether.

Lawmakers returned to their seats after the rat left the chamber of its own accord and voting finally got underway.  EFE
