Filipinos pay respects to dead early as Covid curbs All Saints Day traditions

Manila, Oct 24 (EFE).- Many families in Manila are paying their respects to deceased loved ones this weekend as cemeteries set to close during All Saints Day and All Souls Day for a second consecutive year due to Covid-19,

Catholic authorities in the Philippines capital announced the closure of cemeteries for health and safety reasons.

Filipinos traditionally observe All Saints Day and All Souls Day, which are marked by Christians on November 1-2, by visiting, cleaning and repairing the tombs of deceased family members.

The Philippines Department of Health on Sunday reported 5,279 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of recorded active cases to almost 61,000. There were 208 Covid-related deaths in the previous 24 hours bringing the total to 41,793 since the pandemic began. EFE
