Montmeló, Spain, May 8 (EFE).- Lewis Hamilton bagged the 100th pole start of his career at the Spanish Grand Prix after a tight qualifying session at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Montmeló Saturday.
The seven-time world champion — who is gunning for an all-time record eighth title this year — will start Sunday’s Grand Prix at the top of the grid alongside Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
Hamilton’s Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas will start in third.
“It’s down to the men and women back at the factory, it’s been a dream to work with these guys. Who would have thought at the end of 2012 we’d be at 100,” he told F1 media after the session.
“I’m ecstatic, it’s like my first.”
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc will start the Spanish Grand Prix in fourth place, followed by Alpine’s Esteban Ocon and his teammate, Carlos Sainz, who nabbed P6 on the grid.
