Panama’s Copa joins move to increase women in airline industry

Panama City, Oct 14 (EFE).- Panamanian Copa Airlnes joined Thursday the global “Commitment 25 by 2025” initiative of the International Air Transport Association to increase the presence of women in the aviation industry, presenting its diversity and inclusion program “Eleva”.

“(The association) has united the aviation industry in this commitment to increase the number of women, especially in non-traditional posts, to bring it to 25 percent,” the director of Corporate Well-being of Copa Airlines, Laura Plata, told EFE.

Airlines or companies that join the initiative aim to increase or bring to 25 percent the presence of women in executive and managerial positions and areas where they are “traditionally” underrepresented by 2025.

The program also promotes “the growth of women in managerial positions, that is, in the highest positions of the company,” Plata said.

Copa Airlines has 36 percent of female workers throughout the company “without having a single position where there is no woman,” according to the director.

In addition, Copa is one of the airlines with the highest percentage of female pilots, as there are 98, which represents 10 percent of the total, one of the highest figures in the industry.

The airline has 26 percent of directors or women in decision-making positions, as well as 41% of managers. EFE
