Norway sends 100 air defense missiles to Ukraine

Copenhagen, Apr 20 (EFE).- Norway announced Wednesday a shipment of 100 air defense missiles to Ukraine as part of the military aid in its war against Russia.

The government had previously authorized a donation of 4,000 anti-tank missiles and other types of protective and military equipment to the Ukrainian forces.

“The conflict in Ukraine can be long-lasting, and the country is dependent on international support to resist Russian aggression. Therefore, the government has decided to donate the Mistral air defense system to Ukraine,” Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram said in a statement.

Gram added that the shipment would “not have a major impact on the national operational capability” as these are weapons that the Norwegian authorities had already planned to replace.

“The missile will be phased out by the Norwegian Armed Forces, but it is still a modern and effective weapon that will be of great benefit to Ukraine. Other countries have also donated similar weapon systems,” the minister said.

The weapons have already been sent to Ukraine, according to the statement. EFE
