Harry and Meghan share farewell message as they start new life

London, Mar 30 (efe-epa).- The United Kingdom’s Prince Harry and his wife Meghan on Monday officially started their independent lives after stepping down as senior royals.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared a final message on their Sussex Royal Instagram account, which they will stop using from Wednesday.

“Thank you to this community – for the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world,” the couple said in the statement.

Harry, Queen Elizabeth II’s grandson and sixth in line to the British throne, and his wife will cease to officially represent the British monarchy on Tuesday.

“While you may not see us here, the work continues,” the statement added.

Highlighting the coronavirus pandemic they continued: “As we can all feel, the world at this moment seems extraordinarily fragile.”

The message said: “What’s most important right now is the health and wellbeing of everyone across the globe and finding solutions for the many issues that have presented themselves as a result of this pandemic.

“As we all find the part we are to play in this global shift and changing of habits, we are focusing this new chapter to understand how we can best contribute.”

The couple signed the post as “Harry and Meghan” without using their official titles.

There have been reports this week that they have moved with their young son Archie from Canada, where they had settled after leaving the UK, to Los Angeles, California.

It also came after the announcement of Meghan’s first collaboration with Disney, where she has signed a contract to narrate a documentary about elephants.

Buckingham Palace also released a statement on Monday which said: “As was agreed with the Royal Family, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer use the name Sussex Royal for their charitable organisation, Instagram or website.

“For now, there will be no additional information on their next steps.”

It added that they will spend “the next few months focusing on their family and continuing to do what they can, safely and privately, to support and work with their pre-existing charitable commitments while developing their future non-profit organisation”.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex would prefer that in the immediate weeks and months, the focus remains on the global response to COVID-19,” it continued.

Harry and Meghan announced in January that they wanted to step back as senior royals and become financially independent.

They reached an agreement with the rest of the royal family that this would happen from March 31, with a review of the arrangement 12 weeks later. EFE-EPA
