Harry, Meghan will not return as working royals, Palace confirms

London, Feb 19 (efe-epa).- The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, have told Queen Elizabeth II that they will not return as working members of the British royal family, Buckingham Palace said Friday.

Prince Harry, the grandson of Elizabeth II, and his wife decided a year ago to step away from the monarchy to start a new life outside the United Kingdom and be financially independent.

A review a year later was agreed, following which “a decision has now been made after conversations between The Duke of Sussex and Members of The Royal Family,” the statement said.

The Queen has confirmed that in stepping away from royal duties, “it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service,” it continued.

Harry and Meghan’s military appointments and patronages will be returned to the Queen before they are redistributed to remaining “working members of the royal family.”

“While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family,” the Palace concluded. EFE-EPA
