CONDADO DE DESOTO, MS (LPL/The DeSoto Times Tribune) — El recién renovado Parque Hernando DeSoto junto al río lleva el nombre del legendario explorador español, quien fue el primer europeo en vislumbrar el poderoso canal de agua en 1540.
La Junta de Supervisores del Condado de DeSoto dedicó el nuevo mirador construido en el parque, uno de los más nuevos del condado, junto con varios bancos y parrillas diseñadas para atraer a familias y turistas.
La entrada al río y la rampa para botes ha existido durante años, pero hasta hace poco nunca ha sido un parque dedicado.
El próximo año se completará un sendero de caminata y uno de tres millas que tiene caminos para montar a caballo y ciclistas.
“Este es un proceso a largo plazo”, dijo el Supervisor del Distrito 3, Bill Russell. “Solo alentamos a la gente a salir y disfrutarlo”.
Russell agregó que las cámaras de seguridad están en su lugar junto con patrullas regulares.
“Este sería un lugar ideal para que los Scouts disfruten de acampar durante la noche”, dijo Russell. “Podrían ver la luna salir sobre el río. Es simplemente hermoso”.

DESOTO COUNTY, MS (The DeSoto Times Tribune) —The newly-refurbished Hernando DeSoto Riverpark is named for the legendary Spanish explorer who was the first European to glimpse the mighty waterway back in 1540.
The DeSoto County Board of Supervisors dedicated the new overlook built at the park, one of the county’s newest, along with several benches and barbecue grills designed to bring in families and tourists.
The entryway into the river and the boat ramp has existed for years but until recently has never been a dedicated park.
Next year, a three-mile hiking and walking trail that has paths for horseback riding and bicyclists will be completed.
“This is a long-term process,” District 3 Supervisor Bill Russell said. “We just encourage people to go out there and enjoy it.”
Russell added that security cameras are in place along with regular deputy patrols.
“This would be an ideal place for the Scouts to enjoy overnight camping,” Russell said. “They could watch the moon rise over the river. It’s just beautiful.”
