Dawson rescues West Ham from defeat in extra time
Sports Desk, Feb 13 (EFE).- Craig Dawson semi-inadvertently capitalized off a corner kick in extra time but that was what West Ham needed to avoid defeat in King Power Stadium on Sunday, thus frustrating Leicester’s hopes of victory in what turned out to be a 2-2 matchup.
The striker for the Hammers nullified the efforts of Brendan Rodgers’ men, who have now wracked up four games without a win and had to settle for a disappointing draw in their Sunday outing.
The London club had shown symptoms of weakness in its recent matches and had only won one of its four recent matches, although this time they managed to salvage a point.
David Moyes’ team is in the No. 4 slot on the Premier League table but that position is threatened by Manchester United, which could surpass it with good results in its upcoming matches.
The visitors went out in front 10 minutes into the action when Jarrod Bowen got the ball from Issa Diop – who had replaced the unwell Kurt Zouma in the starting 11 – and fired a left-footer to beat Kasper Schmeichel.
Moyes’ boys kept the advantage until just moments before the break when a spot-on and powerful penalty kick by Youri Tielemans evened things up after Aaron Cresswell touched the ball with his hand upon trying to head away James Maddison’s corner.
After play resumed, Leicester seemed in better form and at the hour mark went out in front when Ricardo Pereira headed in a centering shot by Harvey Barnes.
The home team felt that it was sitting pretty at that point but a corner kick by Jarrod Bowen was deflected into the net off Dawson’s upper arm in stoppage time to equalize things for the next few minutes until the final whistle.
With the draw, West Ham is in fourth, just a point ahead of Man United, while Man City is in first with 63, followed by Liverpool with 54 and Chelsea with 47.
