Man Convicted of First-Degree Murder in 2018 Killing of Bolivar Central High School Student
BOLIVAR, TN (LPL/The Jackson Sun) — Un hombre del condado de Hardeman fue condenado por el asesinato en el 2018 de un estudiante de 19 años de la escuela secundaria Bolivar Central High School.
Un jurado encontró a Lavonte Douglas culpable de asesinato en primer grado e intento de robo agravado en la muerte de Michael Ruiz durante un robo a mano armada en el restaurante mexicano El Ranchito el 20 de marzo del 2018.
Ruiz, un empleado del restaurante, se graduó de Bolivar Central High School en mayo del mismo año.
Dos hombres entraron al restaurante por la puerta trasera justo antes de las 9 p.m. esa noche, la policía le dijo al periódico Jackson Sun. Exigieron que Ruiz les diera dinero, luego le dispararon fatalmente y huyeron de la escena del crimen.
La policía de Bolivar arrestó a Douglas y Javone Blakemore, que entonces eran estudiantes de Bolivar Central High School, y luego John Gray, de 19 años, en relación con la muerte de Ruiz al día siguiente. La policía arrestó a Taylor Robinson, también estudiante de Bolivar Central High School, en abril del 2018.

BOLIVAR, TN (The Jackson Sun) — A Hardeman County man was convicted in the 2018 killing of a 19-year-old Bolivar Central High School student.
A jury found Lavonte Douglas guilty of first-degree murder and attempted aggravated robbery in the death of Michael Ruiz during an armed robbery at El Ranchito Mexican Restaurant on March 20, 2018.
Ruiz, an employee at the restaurant, was set to graduate from Bolivar Central High School in May the same year.
Two men entered the restaurant through the back door just before 9 p.m. that night, police told the Jackson Sun. They demanded Ruiz give them money, then fatally shot him and fled the scene.
Bolivar police arrested Douglas and Javone Blakemore, who were then Bolivar Central High School students, and then-19-year-old John Gray in connection to Ruiz’s death the next day. Police arrested Taylor Robinson, also a student at Bolivar Central High School, in April 2018.
Douglas faces the possibility of life in prison for the first-degree murder conviction and up to six years for attempted aggravated burglary. He is scheduled to appear in court to set a sentencing date.
