Kremlin: Biden’s remarks on Putin ‘alarming’
Moscow, Mar 28 (EFE).- The Kremlin on Monday said United States president Joe Biden’s recent comments saying that Russian leader Vladimir Putin could not remain in power were concerning.
“This is a statement that is certainly alarming,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in Moscow.
Peskov added that the Kremlin would continue to closely monitor statements made by the White House.
On Sunday, senior US officials attempted to row back the remarks Biden made during a fiery speech in Warsaw on Saturday night when he said Putin “cannot remain in power.” In the same speech, Biden also called Putin a “butcher.”
Antony Blinken, the US secretary of state, said during a visit to Israel that his country’s administration does not “have a strategy of regime change in Russia or anywhere else,” adding that Biden meant that Putin “cannot be empowered to wage war or engage in aggression against Ukraine or anyone else.”
The Kremlin also warned that such “personal insults are narrowing down the window of opportunity for our bilateral relations under the current (US) administration.”
“After all, he is the man who once demanded, when speaking on TV in his country that Yugoslavia be bombed. That’s right, that Yugoslavia be bombed. He demanded to kill people,” Peskov added.EFE
