Hollywood star Kevin Spacey found not guilty in sex offenses trial

London, Jul 26 (EFE).- Hollywood star Kevin Spacey on Wednesday was found not guilty of nine sexual offense charges by a court in London.

The charges were brought by four men relating to alleged offenses committed in England between 2001 and 2013.

The jury delivered its verdict after over 12 hours of deliberation. Spacey, who was in the courtroom in the central district of Southwark, had tears in his eyes as the verdict was read out.

Outside Southwark Crown Court, Spacey gave a brief statement to reporters, in which he said he was “enormously grateful” to the jury for its decision.

“I am humbled by the outcome today,” he said.

The American actor, who had denied the charges, was celebrating his 64th birthday on Wednesday.

The plaintiffs, who under UK law are entitled to anonymity, are all men who are now in their 30s and 40s.

During the trial, the prosecution had argued that Spacey, a two-time Oscar winner, was a “sexual bully” who had used his status as an “extremely famous actor” to make “others feel powerless and uncomfortable.”

Ever since the allegations surfaced, Spacey had pledged to clear his name, calling the charges “a stab in the back” from people whose careers he had tried to help. EFE
