Maurizio Sarri named SS Lazio manager

Rome, Jun 9 (EFE).- Italian manager Maurizio Sarri was confirmed as the new manager of SS Lazio on Wednesday.

The former manager of Juventus, Chelsea and Napoli is replacing Simone Inzaghi, who left after five years at the helm of the Rome team to join Serie A champions Inter Milan following the departure of Antonio Conte.

Lazio’s official social media pages teased its fans and hinted at the arrival of the 62-year-old Neapolitan coach by publishing pictures of a cigarette and a tracksuit, two of the items Sarri is known for.

“SS Lazio announces that Maurizio Sarri is the new coach of the first team, ” the club said in a brief message on its website.

Sarri, the 2019 UEFA Europa League winner with Chelsea, and the 2019-20 Serie A champion with Juventus, will resume his Italian adventure with Lazio, who qualified to the Europa League after securing sixth place in the 2020-2021 Serie A.
