Covid-19 vaccinations prevented 38,300 deaths in Germany: RKI study

Berlin, Aug 7 (EFE).- Germany’s coronavirus vaccination rollout has prevented some 38,300 deaths, over 706,000 infections and 20,000 ICU admissions, according to a study by the Robert Koch Institute, the country’s center for disease control and prevention.

The findings confirm the exceptional benefit of vaccination against Covid-19 in the first 6.5 months of the campaign in Germany in 2021, according to the study published on Saturday by German media.

The “high effectiveness” of the campaign proves that the vaccine “is the way out of the pandemic,” the RKI said.

The institute called for the rollout in Germany to be sped up to minimize the impact of the fourth wave of infections that is starting to hit the country.

Over the past 24 hours, 3,206 cases and 24 deaths have been reported for a total of 3,787,639 infections and 91,778 fatalities, the institute said on Saturday.

According to the health ministry, 62.2 percent of the German population (51.7 million people) have received the first dose, while 54.1 percent were administered the full course. EFE
