Liverpool edge scrappy Nottingham Forest 3-2

Sports Desk, Apr 22 (EFE).- Relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest came from behind twice Saturday to go level with Liverpool at Anfield, but couldn’t do it a third time and the Reds prevailed 3-2 to move up to seventh in the Premier League.

After 31 games, Jürgen Klopp’s men are 3 points away from a Europa League spot and 6 points behind fourth-place Newcastle United.

Promoted Forest, meanwhile, sit 19th in the table on 27 points and have just six matches left to climb out of the drop zone.

Dominant from the start, Liverpool would have taken the lead in the 27th minute but for a brilliant save by Keylor Navas, who managed to tip Virgil van Dijk’s header over the cross-bar.

Four minutes later, former Red Neco Williams made a stop on the line to deny Cody Gakpo with Navas beaten.

Diogo Jota, who has missed most of the season with injuries, headed wide of the post in the 39th minute and the game remained scoreless at the break.

The Portugal international made amends less than two minutes into the second half, scoring from close range off a corner.

Williams answered for Forest in the 51st minute, exploiting a turnover by the hosts, only to see Jota make it 2-1 for Liverpool in the 55th with his second goal of the game and fourth of the week.

Navas came up big in the 65th minute to spoil Jota’s bid for the hat trick and Morgan Gibbs-White put Forest on level terms again two minutes later.

But the visitors gave away yet another free kick in the 70th and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s ball found Mohamed Salah in scoring position at the far post for what proved to be the match winner.
