Four Palestinians killed in clashes with Israeli forces in West Bank
Jerusalem, Nov 29 (EFE).- Four Palestinians were killed in separate incidents with Israeli troops in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, the latest in a surge of violence that has gripped the region for months.
Two Palestinian siblings, identified as Jawad and Thafer Abdul Rahman Rimawi, aged 22 and 21 years respectively, were killed by Israeli fire in Kafr Ein village near Ramallah, the Palestinian health ministry said without providing further details about the circumstances of their death.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has not reported on the incident in Kfar Ein either.
A 20-year-old Palestinian man was also killed during clashes with Israeli troops in the city of Beit Ummar, near Hebron, in the southern West Bank early Tuesday.
Two military vehicles got stuck in the area due to a technical problem and a group of Palestinians threw stones and homemade explosive devices at the soldiers, who responded with live fire and riot dispersal means, the IDF said.
The fourth Palestinian was chased and shot after running over a female soldier near Ramallah, Israeli police confirmed. He succumbed to his wounds later at a medical center, according to local media.
He was identified as Rani Mamoun Fayz Abu Ali, a 45-year-old from the town of Beitunia who had a permit to work in Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
“A 20-year-old female (is) in serious condition following a car-ramming #Terrorist #attack in the Binyamin region,” near the Migron Jewish settlement, Israel’s Magen David Adom wrote on Twitter.
Outgoing Israeli prime minister Yair Lapid thanked the security forces for “acting with determination to eliminate the despicable terrorist.”
The IDF said it was the ninth ramming attack so far this year, the latest in a series of attacks in the area that have put authorities on high alert.
Last week, two people were killed and a dozen others injured in Jerusalem after a twin attack on two bus stops.
This year has been the deadliest for Palestinians in the West Bank since 2006.
There have been intense Israeli raids in the West Bank and armed clashes with Palestinians, especially since late March when Israel launched a military operation it calls “Breaking the Wave” in response to a wave of attacks by Israeli Arabs and Palestinians on Israeli soil.
Since then, violence has been on the rise, leaving at least 153 Palestinians dead, according to the health ministry.
The victims have mostly been militants, but also include children and civilians such as Al Jazeera correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh.
A total of 31 Israelis have also died, including 21 civilians, the IDF said. EFE
