Cambodia lifts mandatory quarantine for travelers entering the country

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Nov 15 (EFE).- Cambodia lifted Monday the mandatory quarantine for travelers entering the country provided they are vaccinated against Covid-19.

The measure, which requires travelers test negative for the coronavirus, came into effect on Monday after a social media announcement overnight by Prime Minister Hun Sen advancing the date for allowing international tourists into the country without quarantine from Nov.30.

Hun Sen underlined that this policy would be applied without discrimination to everyone, including Cambodians and foreign visitors.

The prime minister said the measure is a result of the high rate of vaccination in the country as 88 percent of the population over 5 years of age have received both doses.

He said they were taking a great step towards the reopening of the entire country and called on all relevant authorities to prepare to apply this policy from Nov.15.

This measure comes two weeks after Hun Sen declared the reopening of schools in the country as well as all economic activity across all sectors.

The country, which is a part of the UN COVAX program, has received about 30 million doses, of which 26.8 million are by Chinese pharmaceutical companies Sinovac and Sinopharm and the rest from AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.

Cambodia has so far recorded 119,536 cases of Covid-19, and 2,867 deaths. EFE
