Spain soccer legend Sergio Ramos also competes in Jumping ‘Champions League’
Barcelona, Oct 2 (EFE).- The 112-year-old Nations Cup is the most prestigious jumping tournament in the world, with only the best horses taking part, and among them is Alamo, owned by Spain soccer international Sergio Ramos.
The former Real Madrid captain, who now plays at Paris Saint-Germain, is a big equestrian fan and owns a stud farm near Seville, Spain, where he breeds livestock.
Several months ago, the defender partnered with rider Sergio Alvarez Moya, one of Spain’s leading figures in show jumping, to buy the world champion horse Alamo in 2019, when he was ridden by the Swiss rider Steve Guerdat.
On Friday night, Moya and Alamo performed a faultless ride and sealed Spain’s spot in the Nations Cup Final, organized by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) as part of the 109th CSIO Barcelona.
“Everyone likes him, he is a great competitor and a nice horse. I own him together with Sergio Ramos, the best defender in the history of soccer. He is the player with the most games with the Spain team and a great guy too,” Alvarez Moya said after his ride.
Sources on the equestrian circuit say that Alamo is valued close to one and a half million euros.
This weekend in the Catalan capital, another horse owned by Ramos and Alvarez Moya, Eliante Z, was also participating.
Spaniard Ismael García Roque rides this 8-year-old mare and is grateful to be able to work together with Moya, which allows him to jump with elite horses in competitions such as the Nations Cup, an event he describes as “the Champions League of equestrian sports.” EFE
