LOS ANGELES (AP) — Pitbull is looking to uplift his fans around the world with a new dance anthem.

The singer has teamed up with the Saban Music Group to release “I Believe That We Will Win” in the hope of turning the word fear into a positive.

“Fear is either you can forget everything and run, or you can face everything and rise. And we’re going to face everything and rise,” said the Grammy-winner, who is among the hundreds of artists who have canceled or postponed concerts due to the coronavirus.

“Things being canceled, to me, wasn’t the first thing on my mind. The first thing on my mind was how do we help the public, how do we help society? How do we help the world get through something like this,” he said. “And not only that, to be able to look at it from different angles.”

“We need people out there to stay strong mentally in order for their body to be able to fight this,” he said.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the single will go to the charities Feeding America and the Tony Robbins Foundation.

Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Christian Perez, says he’s “staying healthy and staying strong” but that he’s never seen his hometown of Miami so quiet.

“What you do see is, believe it or not, more people exercising,” he said, noting that they’re staying far apart. “The people that are out they’re just trying to be productive one way or another. I think that everybody down here has done a great job.”

The recording artist also has 11 charter schools called SLAM (Sports Leadership and Management) in cities such as Miami, Las Vegas, San Antonio, Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando and Phoenix. Pitbull says he’s proud of how quickly the staff, students and parents were able to adapt to remote learning.

“We didn’t know what was going to happen and how we’re going to pull it off,” he said. He said everyone involved — administrators, teachers, parents and students — have been “overachieving.”

“I want to give them a big shout out. Nothing but respect,” he said. “It gives me more motivation to be able to be out here talking to people and letting them know.”

LOS ÁNGELES (AP) — Pitbull quiere ayudar a sus fans a combatir la tristeza por el coronavirus con un nuevo himno dance: “I Believe That We Will Win” (Creo que nosotros vamos a ganar).

El cantante y rapero cubano-estadounidense, cuyo verdadero nombre es Armando Christian Pérez, lanzó el tema con un video lírico hace unos días. Todas las ganancias del sencillo apoyarán los esfuerzos por la pandemia de las organizaciones benéficas Feeding America y Tony Robbins Foundation.

Pitbull, quien como muchos artistas se vio obligado a cancelar conciertos, dijo en una entrevista con The Associated Press que su primera preocupación no fue su agenda de trabajo sino cómo ayudar al público, a la sociedad. Tras escuchar un lema coreado en partidos de baloncesto universitarios, encontró la respuesta con “I Believe” (Yo creo).

Parte de la letra, que combina inglés y español, dice: “Que Dios bendiga a toda tu familia, mis amigos, de parte de Armandito, dale duro a este virus”.

“La motivación detrás de la canción viene siendo motivar al planeta, motivar a todo el mundo y que no dejen que los asusten afuera”, dijo Pitbull desde Miami, donde reside. “Tenemos el tiempo ahora mismo para educarnos, tenemos el acceso con el teléfono para poder ver lo que está pasando en el mundo de verdad, no solamente el número de la gente que está infectada o la gente que se ha muerto de este virus y que Dios los bendiga, pero también el número de la gente que se ha recuperado de este virus”.

Un amigo cercano le envió el coro con un “beat” (ritmo). Una hora después, la canción estaba escrita; dos horas más tarde, completamente grabada. El video lo filmó en el barrio de La Pequeña Habana, parado en la azotea de una de las 11 escuelas públicas subvencionadas SLAM (Sports Leadership And Management Academy) que ha lanzado a nivel nacional. Ahora quiere que sus fans “crean” y encuentren la fuerza para superar esta crisis global.

“La música para mí es un idioma universal”, dijo Pitbull. “Es lo que une a las sociedades, las personas, el público, y eso es lo que necesitamos ahora mismo. Así que para todo el mundo allá afuera, ojalá que esto es algo que te dé esa inspiración y que te dé esa fuerza de saber que hoy esto es pa’ lante, pa’ arriba, no mires pa’ atrás ni para (coger) impulso”.

“Necesitamos que la gente allá afuera mantenga la mente fuerte para que sus cuerpos puedan batallar esto”, agregó. “El mensaje es que yo creo que vamos a ganar. No, yo SÉ que vamos a ganar”.
