Murder probe launched after man fatally stabbed at Notting Hill Carnival

London, Aug 30 (EFE).- London’s Metropolitan Police launched a murder investigation following the death of a 21-year-old man who was stabbed at the famous Notting Hill Carnival, police said Tuesday.

“At around 20:00hrs on Monday, 29 August officers became aware of a stabbing in Ladbroke Grove, under the Westway flyover,” the Met said in a statement.

Officers provided emergency first aid and were able to “extract him through significant crowds in challenging circumstances to a waiting ambulance,” it added.

The man was taken to a west London hospital where he was pronounced dead.

“A murder investigation is under way, led by homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command,” Commander of Local Policing Alison Heydari said.

She added that there were “hundreds of people in the immediate vicinity when this incident took place” and urged anyone with information to come forward.

A total of 209 arrests were made from the start of the carnival until the end of Monday, including 46 for assault, 36 for drug possession, 33 for possession of an offensive weapon and eight for sexual assault, the Met said.

The carnival had returned to the streets of Notting Hill for the first time since 2019 after it was canceled two years in a row due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This festival, considered second in the world to that of Rio de Janeiro, brings together bands, dancing, parades, street food stalls and thousands of people. EFE
