Keita fires Liverpool to top of PL table

Madrid, Apr 30 (EFE).- Naby Keita’s first-half goal led Liverpool to a 1-0 victory over Newcastle Saturday, keeping the Reds ahead in the fight for the Premier League title.

Liverpool’s coach Jurgen Klopp gave regular starters, including Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago and Mohamed Salah, a rest with an eye on Tuesday’s second leg of the Champions League semifinal against Villarreal.

Salah and Alcantara entered the field halfway through the second half.

The Guinean midfielder dribbled around goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and a few defenders within the area before scoring off a Diogo Jota assist 19 minutes into the game.

This proved to be decisive as Liverpool halted Newcastle’s four-match winning streak and momentarily climbed to the Premier League top spot with 82 points, two ahead of Manchester City who play Leeds later on.

Newcastle are ninth with 43 points. EFE
