13 wounded in stabbing incident near South Korean capital

Seoul, Aug 3 (EFE).- Around 13 people were wounded – three of them in serious condition – on Thursday in a stabbing incident in a city south of the capital Seoul.

A suspect, who allegedly went on an indiscriminate stabbing spree, has been arrested by the police.

The event occurred around 6pm local time near a shopping center next to Seohyeon subway station in the city of Seongnam, which is part of the capital’s metropolitan area.

Emergency services received a distress call about a man who was attacking passers-by with a knife, according to the local agency Yonhap.

Police arrested the alleged perpetrator of the attack as he tried to flee the crime scene.

Moreover, five pedestrians were also hit by a vehicle believed to have been used by the suspect.

The authorities said three of the injured have been taken to the hospital’s emergency room and the extent of the other victims’ injuries has not been made public yet.

A similar incident occurred on July 21 in the southeast of the capital, when a man began stabbing pedestrians in the middle of the street, leaving one dead and three wounded. EFE
