50,000 Russians lost jobs due to Western sanctions, company exodus

Moscow, Apr 20 (EFE).- Some 50,000 Russians have lost their jobs and another 98,000 are on a period of forced vacation due to Western sanctions and the exodus of international companies from the country for its invasion of Ukraine, the labor and social protection ministry said Wednesday

The deputy secretary of the ministry Andrei Pudov briefed a parliamentary meeting on the latest figures, according to the TASS news agency.

Pudov claimed, however, that 2.5 million workers were hired at the beginning of spring.

Moscow mayor Sergey Sobyanin on Tuesday warned that 200,000 people in the Russian capital were at risk of losing their jobs due to the closure of international companies.

He added that around 300 international firms ceased operations in Moscow as of the end of March. EFE
