Efe photographer Esteban Biba wins London Photography Award

London, May 25 (EFE).- Guatemalan photographer for Spain’s news agency Efe, Esteban Biba, on Wednesday was awarded the London Editorial – Environmental Photography Award for his work Rezar.

The photograph shows a woman holding a wooden cross and praying in front of the Pacaya volcano in San Vicente Pacaya, Guatemala.

Biba, who is currently in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv covering the war, said the photograph was part of a series of images of Catholics praying for the lava to stop after the volcano’s eruption.

In early May last year, the Pacaya volcano spewed rivers of lavas that reached just a few meters from dozens of houses in the village El Patrocinio.

The London Photography Awards is an international competition that awards photographers “who step out of their comfort zone, and capture astounding photographs that would be etched within history itself.” EFE
