Peligrosa carrera de egos políticos

Dangerous Race of Political Egos

September has been a month of hurricanes and earthquakes which seriously affected the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean islands. Amid the blows of nature, the planet’s inhabitants have also felt the anxiety of a possible nuclear conflict between the United States and North Korea.

We are in the presence of a war of egos, where insults and warlike language prevail. Its development shows us the poor readiness of the emotional illiterates that lead both countries: Donald Trump called Kim Jong Un as the “rocket man,” while the North Korean dictator said that the U.S. President was a “dotard.”

Beyond the teachings of nature, we must unite in love, tolerance and compassion. It is time to make both rulers understand that they must cultivate a higher consciousness if they pretend to be the soul and voice of their nation and of all humanity. Because we are all one, and there are no boundaries between human beings.

Every day, Trump starts off on the wrong foot, and he proves it on social media. He boasts about his little diplomatic knowledge, something that a leader of his level should dominate instead. On the other hand, Kim Jong Un ignores the meaning of the concept of civilization and runs his country in an autocratic way. Democratically speaking, they are not comparable, as the first one was chosen by the Americans, with their free and sovereign vote; but they both have a dangerous ego problem.

Amid such chaos (with natural elements and others induced by man), what should we do to live better?

In my opinion, we should be sowing love from within, in order to remove anxiety, fear and hatred, which in the end are the seeds of terror and intolerance. I bet that we look inside, and discover that, beyond ego and our false identities of races, ethnicities and creeds, we all deserve harmony and peaceful coexistence.

Let’s call on political leaders not to take life and peace away from us, and to ensure a better future for the new generations. With three root problems on their backs – selfishness, greed and apathy -, the world struggles amidst poverty, climate change, social inequality and poor quality of education.

To solve our weakness of conscience, let us work together to transform the state of things. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “be the change that you wish to see in the world.”
