Judge denies Britney Spears’ request to end father’s conservatorship

Los Angeles, US, Jul 1 (EFE).- A Los Angeles judge has denied Britney Spears’ request to end her father’s conservatorship, according to court filings.

The decision by Judge Brenda Penny at the LA County Superior Court on Wednesday comes a week after an explosive testimony by the singer in which she said she was “traumatized” by her father’s control of her estate since 2008.

The pop star’s lawyer had asked Judge Penny to end Jamie Spears’ conservatorship last November and to bring it under the control of the Bessemer Trust, a management company.

Although Judge Penny ruled against stripping Jaime Spears of his control over his daughter’s estate, valued at around $60 million, she did give permission for the Bessemer Trust to become co-conservator, according to the court documents Wednesday.

On June 23, the world-famous singer spoke out against what she described as an “abusive” conservatorship and urged the court to end the arrangement.

“I just want my life back. It’s been 13 years and it’s enough,” Spears told Judge Penny at a hearing during a 20-minute address via videolink as fans rallied outside the courtroom.

Spears spoke of having little control over her life during these 13 years, in which she has not had the freedom to speak to the press, give interviews, marry or start a family with her boyfriend.

“I was told right now in the conservatorship, I’m not able to get married or have a baby,” she said during the hearing.

“I have an IUD inside of myself right now so I don’t get pregnant. I wanted to take the IUD out so I could start trying to have another baby, but this so-called team won’t let me go to the doctor to take it out because they don’t want me to have children, any more children.”

The legal case between the singer and her father has rallied support for her on social media through the hashtag “Free Britney.”EFE
