FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE MEMPHIS IN MAY PRESENTA SU PÓSTER ARTÍSTICO 2018 EN HONOR A LA REPÚBLICA CHECA

MEMPHIS IN MAY INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL UNVEILS THE 2018 FINE ARTS POSTER HONORING THE CZECH REPUBLIC
MEMPHIS, TN (LPL/MIM) — El Festival Internacional de Memphis in May dio a conocer su póster artístico en honor a la República Checa en el Museo de Arte Brooks el martes, 23 de enero, a las 6:00 p.m. El trabajo original del póster fue creado por la artista local Erin Harmon, y se compone de un animado collage de papel pintado para construir la imagen.
La composición consiste en un grupo de círculos superpuestos e interconectados que aluden tanto a las cualidades del Art Nouveau (Modernismo) que se encuentran en gran parte de la República Checa, como a la interconexión y unidad de la República. La paleta de colores del póster se extrajo de los colores vivos y vibrantes que se encuentran en los impresionantes vitrales de todo el país. Además, el trabajo presenta innumerables símbolos de la historia checa, así como homenajes a su herencia y sutiles alusiones a sus monumentos culturales.
“Cada elemento de este póster rinde homenaje a algunos aspectos de la cultura visual checa, incluidos el arte, la arquitectura y diversos aspectos del diseño”, dice Harmon. “El hecho de haber tenido que hacer una investigación para este proyecto fue una gran alegría, fue difícil reducir mis inspiraciones a una sola imagen. Espero que el diseño resultante se sienta jubiloso y dinámico, y que ilustre mi entusiasmo por la cultura checa y mi optimismo por el futuro del país”.
Harmon es profesora de arte en Rhodes College y se desempeñó como presidenta del Departamento desde el 2012 hasta el 2017. Ha cultivado un récord nacional de exposiciones y ha sido incluida en más de cincuenta exposiciones en lugares como Field Projects, NY; Sarah Doyle Gallery, Providence RI; Atlanta Artists Center & Gallery, GA; el Brooks Museum of Art, Memphis, TN; Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN; y el Attleboro Arts Museum, MA.

MEMPHIS, TN (MIM) — Memphis in May International Festival unveiled the 2018 Fine Arts Poster honoring the Czech Republic at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art on Tuesday night, January 23, at 6:00 p.m. The original work for the Fine Arts Poster was created by local artist Erin Harmon, and is composed of a lively collage of painted paper to construct the image.
The composition consists of a group of overlapping and interconnected circles alluding to both the qualities of art nouveau found throughout much of the Czech Republic, and the interconnectedness and unity of the Republic. The color palette of the poster was pulled from the vibrant and rich colors found in many stunning stained-glass windows throughout the country. Additionally, the work features countless symbols of Czech history, tributes to their heritage, and subtle allusions to their cultural touchstones and landmarks.
“Every element of this poster pays homage to some aspect of Czech visual culture including art, architecture, and various aspects of design,” says Ms. Harmon. “Researching for this project was such a joy, it was difficult to narrow down my inspirations to a single image. I hope the resultant design feels jubilant and dynamic, illustrating my enthusiasm for Czech culture and my optimism for the future of the country.”
Ms. Harmon is the James F. Ruffin Professor of Art at Rhodes College and served as Department Chair from 2012 to 2017. She has cultivated a national exhibition record and been included in over fifty exhibitions at venues including Field Projects, NY; Sarah Doyle Gallery, Providence RI; Atlanta Artists Center & Gallery, GA; the Brooks Museum, Memphis, TN; Vanderbilt University, Nashville TN; and the Attleboro Arts Museum, MA.
